as i redesign my website. It has been a few years and I really wanted to redo the website for a while now. I have gone through design after design and nothing was hitting me very well. I had one design I liked. It was based on the Hemingway Theme but the problem was that the menu system that i came up with wasn’t very functional. Ever since wordpress 2.1 when you could put the blog page on a separate page and make the home page something else I have wanted to do this redesign. Well here it is, hope you like it so far.
Oh and if you are using IE6…Please for the sake of all that is good and peaceful in the world go get a real browser!! (Cause after I get close to finishing you won’t be able to see the design as i intended it at all).
Well i rediscovered Flock today. They have added a ton of new stuff. The interface is a lot better.
Blogged with Flock
I just saw this tonight and loved it. They are so dead on its not funny. I especially like #6:
6. This one is going to get me in trouble. If you are a print designer, and “do websites on the side”, STOP DOING websites and providing “advice” to your print clients about web design. Print design to web design is like designing an ad for a race car, and actually building and racing that race car. Don’t get me wrong, print is great and all, you make pretty pictures and wonderful messages crafted with great copy, but when it comes down to it, it’s still just a picture. People cannot buy the product with a print ad (yet), they can’t communicate with your business through a print ad. I can already here the grumbling coming from the print world, and look, it’s not that I don’t see a purpose for print advertising, just stick to print and don’t nose you’re way into a medium which you do not know and wouldn’t understand (same goes for general “geeks” who do websites ‘on the side’)
I also loved #8, you better go check out the post at josiahcole.com or be in trouble with the web design gods!
I just took the Web Design Survey at A List Apart. Go take it!!

Saw this wallpaper being touted on dl.tv the other day and loved it. The web is a fragile thing, lets use those standards we all love.

My father-in-law is the breakfast master but there has always been a problem, his recipes are in his head. This is a predicament. That is until I learned that the waffle recipe is an actual recipe with actual measurements. I am not one to talk because I often add to or subtract from a recipe. This weekend i learned the secret recipe to the BEST WAFFLES EVER!! I mean crispy on the outside, kind of chewy on the inside, yet light. Not heavy. MMMM soooo good. And the recipe was right in front of my nose the whole time. Without further ado:
Best Waffle Recipe Ever
Courtesy of Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook
- 1 3/4 C. All Purpose flour
- 1 T. Baking Powder
- 1/4 t. Salt
- 2 egg yolks
- 1 3/4 C. Milk
- 1/2 C. cooking oil
- 2 egg whites
In a medium mixing bowl stir together flour, baking powder, and salt. Make a well in the center. In another bowl beat egg yolks slightly. Stir in milk and oil. Add egg yolk mixture all at once to the dry mixture. Stir just till moistened (should be lumpy).
Now the important part. In a small bowl beat egg whites until stiff peaks form (tips stand straight up). Gently fold egg whites into flour and egg yolk mixture, leaving a few fluffs of egg white, DO NOT OVERMIX. And proceed to make your waffles, about a cup of mixture to make a waffle. Good luck
To go with these tasty goodness’s I don’t recommend maple syrup, I recommend a much lighter (taste wise) alternative syrup – vanilla syrup. Recipe:
Vanilla Syrup
- 2 C. Sugar
- 1 1/4 C. Water
- Capful + of Vanilla Extract (imitaion or real)
Put Sugar and Water in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil. Once boiling add the vanilla and let boil for a minute or 2. Serve hot over tasty goodness Waffles or pancakes or whatever…
Please let there be someone, anyone, out there that has their head on straight. I am sick and tired of non designers designing and changing stuff that has already been designed, laid out, and very well done. It makes me sick to see colors that have nothing to do with the color scheme of a company being put in to a website because it stands out. Give me a break, good design and layout helps people navigate a site better than an uglyass bright color.
Lately designers have had to end up not caring about the end design because it has be so bastardized by those that 1. Have no idea of design, 2. Did not go to school for design or anything remotely close to it, 3. Have all the power in the world. Idiotic shiz like this is making people like me not want to design anymore. NEVER AGAIN. If not that, then NEVER FOR A COMPANY.
This is an important issue involving the internet. Usually I don’t get involved in these type of things but me and my familiy’s livelyhood comes from the internet and I think a lot of yours is growing increasingly in that direction. So read this and do what you can to save the internet from the telcos that want to increase their bank accounts.

Do you buy books online, use Google, or download to an iPod? Everything we
do online will be hurt if Congress passes a radical law next week that gives
giant corporations more control over what we do and see on the Internet.
Internet providers like AT&T are lobbying Congress hard to gut Network
Neutrality–the Internet’s First Amendment and the key to Internet freedom.
Net Neutrality prevents AT&T from choosing which websites open most easily
for you based on which site pays AT&T more. BarnesandNoble.com doesn’t have
to outbid Amazon for the right to work properly on your computer.
If Net Neutrality is gutted, many sites–including Google, eBay, and
iTunes–must either pay protection money to companies like AT&T or risk
having their websites process slowly. That why these high-tech pioneers,
plus diverse groups ranging from MoveOn to Gun Owners of America, are
opposing Congress’ effort to gut Internet freedom. Continue Reading »
